Holy Week

  1. Procure the numbers of pascal candles needed and prepare them
  2. Ensure enough host, wine, incence and big hosts
  3. Clean all sacred vessels
  4. Holy Oil to change
  5. Send for laundry for cloth items needed for Easter

 

Palm Sunday

  1. Prepare sprinklers
  2. All statues and images are to be veiled after the last mass for Palm Sunday. Including the processional crucifix.
  3. Moved candle stand angels to side and veiled them
  4. The Sacred Heart statue is to be relocated and placed on top of book shelf, near St. Joseph statue.  As location will be used for Altar of Repose (AOR) on Wednesday. Remove Divine Mercy picture
  5. Try to have as little host remainder after last mass as need to consume all host by Wednesday.

 

Wednesday of Holy week

  1. To consume all host by Wednesday if possible. If have host left then transfer to tabernacle in sacristy. These host will not be used until vigil mass on Saturday or shortage on Good Friday.
  2. To setup the Altar of Repose (AOR) and ensure door is unlocked. To be place at Sacred Heart Statue corner before Holy Thursday mass. Cover partially with white cloth. If AOR is setup earlier to cover with purple cloth.
  3. Empty out Holy Water Vessels, to refill with water on Holy Saturday
  4. All the holy oil containers are to be cleaned and replaced with new oils (collect oil from the PP). The old oils will be used for the tabernacle lamp. All cottons/papers used to wipe the oil are to be burnt. Oil containers to be washed and buried.
  5. Commission the baptismal font.


 

Holy Thursday

Morning

  1. For Lauds (8am) and Office of Readings(10am), will use the commentator microphone. No arrangements needed. 

 

Holy Thursday Mass

  1. Holy oils to be placed at the offertory table together with the offertory ciborium, water and wine cruet (normal days mass offertory).
  2. Candle stand without statue can be used for Mass. Oil lamps or candle placed on altar can be used if no candle stand.
  3. Water for feet washing consist of 2 jugs, 2 basin (blue plastic cover), old towels (6 pieces). Place one basin and jugs on tables outside each front door.
  4. One stainless steel basin for Priest to wash hand (placed in sacristy), soap and towel.
  5. Vestment – White. Prepare an apron for the priest. (to wash apron before storage)
  6. All ciboria containing host to have white veils (covers if available). Oil lamps (carried by altar servers) needed during transference
  7. Prepare for incensing. 
  8. Place big corporal (as used for Holy Hour) on the altar
  9. Prepare 3 big hosts (number depends on number of masses for Good Friday). . Ensure enough host is consecrated for Holy Thursday & Good Friday for the last mass. Allow for 3000 (based on usage of 2500 for 2019) hosts for Good Friday. . Consult with the priest for your estimates.
  10. Ambry door to be ajar for placing the oils by EMC or altar servers or sacristan
  11. After communion, the sanctuary light will be extinguished as the altar is stripped, the sanctuary lamp is turned off from the sacristy. The flowers, the altar cloth are removed, stripping the altar bare.
  12. Altar of Repose - (Ensure door is unlocked. Key in the sacristy with tabernacle keys). To be place at Sacred heart Statue corner before mass. Cover partially with white cloth.
  13. The Sacred heart statue is to be relocated and placed on top of book shelf, near St Joseph statue.
  14. Carpet for Altar of Repose (Rolled-up, place at Sacred Heart Statue corner for easy excess)
  15. Cushion for priest to kneel at Altar of Repose (AOR). Humeral veil for tranference. Cushions for altar servers to knee on
  16. Prepare cordless mike for priest to be used at the Altar of repose
  17. To light 1 red oil lamp and placed on top of AOR (Tabernacle light) after transference.
  18. Adoration will take place after last mass and AOR will be moved to the sacristy after 11.30pm Compline
  19. Sacristan to stand-by and assist in transference of AOR to sacristy. Prepare humeral veil after last adoration session. No preparation of the altar needed.

 

Water in jug and towels for feet washing placed outside church near altar. 2 jugs of water needed, Priest to wash hand in sacristy to provide metal basin in the sink to hold waste water (to discard outside sacristy)
Oils at offertory table before the Mass

 

Good Friday

  1. No altar candles, crucifix, incense and bells.
  2. Ensure that the AOR in sacristy is unlock for the collection of the ciboria (Good Friday no host consecration)
  3. Prepare carpet & cushion for Celebrant’s prostrating before service. Check if priest (visiting) needed it. To remove immediately after use. 
  4. Wireless microphone for priest, at front of church for procession of the crucifix. If Part A used then no procession and unveiling will be made on the altar.
  5. Small table with white table cloth to support the unveiled Crucifix. place table at front of altar just before the unveiling of the crucifix.
  6. Once unveiled crucifx is placed on the table, the veneration by priest, EMCs, altar servers and sacristans will take place. At same time, the altar will be set up for communion service.
  7. Coordinate with Altar Servers if insufficient sacristans, to cover altar with cloth, large coporal & lighted candles. Place the Roman Missal on the altar and arrange empty ciboria on the altar.
  8. Sacristans to transfer ciboria from AOR to the altar if needed.
  9. After communion, stripped altar of cloth etc
  10. To remove the veil cloth of way of the cross stations just before the last way of the cross. If not feasible then unveil them on Saturday morning.

 


 

Holy Saturday

  1. For Lauds (8am) and Office of Readings(10am), Commentator microphone will be used. No setup required 
  2. Remove cloth from all statues after Office of Readings
  3. Arrange chair for sacristans on the left wing.
  4. Fill holy water vessels
  5. Check baptismal font is running (see baptismal font maintenance)
  6. Prepare candles with wax cup for altar servers.

 

Easter Vigil

  1. Preparation:
    place pascal candle, 5 grains, torch lights, stylus, fire lighter (use paraffin oil) on table, salt for blessing of water, charcoal, stove, altar cloth
  2. Start fire in stove at front of the church

For baptism
Towels, candles, certificates, tissue or towels, Chrism Oil (CS) and Catecumen oil (OS), lemon water for handwash, check with priest if needed. Duplicate the oils if there are 2 priest available

Vigil divided into 4 parts 

  • Service of Light,
  • Liturgy of the Word,
  • Liturgy of Baptism, and
  • Liturgy of the Eucharist.

If there are more than one mass then Liturgy of Baptism normally takes place on the last mass (mid-night mass)

  1. The altar is setup up during the Gloria (Altar cloth, Corporal, lighted candles and flowers).
  2. Also the Gospel book and Sacramentary book are placed on the altar.
  3. After consecration of the host,  place the ciboria and and tranference of host from sacristy if needed.               
  4. The sanctuary vigil light will be switched on after the last mass communion.
